  • In September quarter 2007, the trend estimate for the number of cattle slaughtered fell by 3% to 2.0 million.
  • In September quarter 2007, the trend estimate for the number of sheep slaughtered fell by 9% to 2.7 million.

The trend estimate for the number of cattle slaughtered in September quarter 2007 fell by 3% to 2.0 million.

The trend estimate for the number of calves slaughtered in September quarter 2007 fell by 5% to 227,000.



SHEEP AND LAMBS

In September quarter 2007, the trend estimate for the number of sheep slaughtered fell by 9% to 2.7 million. The number of lambs slaughtered rose by 2% to 5.3 million.



PIGS

In September quarter 2007, the trend estimate for the number of pigs slaughtered remained steady at 1.3 million.



BEEF

In September quarter 2007, the trend estimate for beef production fell by 2% to 525,000 tonnes.



MUTTON AND LAMB

EXPORTS OF LIVE SHEEP

Live sheep exports rose by 70% to 953,000 in September quarter 2007. Gross value rose by 74% for the quarter, up to $65.7 million. Unit value rose by 2% to $68.94.



EXPORTS OF LIVE CATTLE

Live cattle exports rose by 12% to 217,000 in September quarter 2007. Gross value rose by 8% for the quarter, up to $140 million. Unit value fell by 3% to $641.83.
